Build World Innovation Excursion – Israel 2019

In June 2019 BUILTWORLD Innovation has organized an Innovation Excursion to the center of the startup nation Israel. BUILTWORLD Innovation and its members explored the fascinating rise in technological innovation in 2018 as well in order to understand Israel’s thrive and unbeatable growth in the past few years. Being number 2 in the Global Innovation Ranking and number 2 in startup companies per head with around 8300 startups, Israel offers countless opportunities for our members in the form cooperation possibilities and new solutions for unexplored Know How in Europe.

Starting the week in the magnificent Tel Aviv, we met Grisha Alroi-Arloser from the Deutsch-Israelische Industrie- und Handelskammer (AHK Israel) for a country briefing and were taught about the strong connection between Israel’s fast development and their military system and constant need for innovative strategies in order to protect their country. In addition, we it became clear that startups in Israel only survive if their business is suitable for the global market due to their own market being so small and therefore inadequate for the upkeeping of a successful business. Therefore almost 20% of Israel’s exports are high-tech goods.

In Jerusalem we were given the opportunity to be a part of the PropTech360 event, a global real estate and technology summit. We used this chance to get to know new and established startups, learn about challenges and opportunities with digitalization and discuss innovative technology in areas such as retail, real estate asset management, construction tech and smart city technologies.

Back in Tel Aviv we visited Innogy’s Innovation Hub, the Construction Innovation Zone and the Floor Hub where we talked to more startups – some of which were in Innogy’s portfolio. On our last day, Asaf Tuchmair, chairman of the board for Israel Canada Ltd. talked with us about project development and innovation to help us understand new possibilities within the demographic growth in Israel. In addition, we were able to visit WeWork’s Labs and PropTech Labs and received a valuable oversight.

After another successful innovation excursion getting an insight into Israel’s startup eco-system, exploring the beautiful Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and even having the chance to enjoy some wonderful local cuisine, the BUILTWORLD Innovation delegation is more than pleased with the results. Therefore BUILTWORLD Innovation are looking forward to carrying out another Innovation Excursion to Israel in the context of our ReCoTech Week during 4th – 7th May 2020.
