Dr Jan Winkler is a CTO at Digital Engineering Solutions Sp.z.o.o and Professional Head of Geomatics in Atkins SNC-Lavalin (Bridges Civils & Geomatics Practice, Transportation Division). He is responsible for knowledge management and development of expertise within vision-based structural health monitoring, infrastructure geometry capture and drone-based survey: In recent years Jan has led some of the most complex infrastructure monitoring projects employing innovative image processing technologies including 1.4 km long Humber Bridge and Europe’s longest suspension bridge – 1.6 km long Great Belt Bridge. He is a member of the International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib) COM 5 and acts as a reviewer for ASCE Journal of Bridge Eng. and IABSE Structural Eng. Journal. He is the finalist of the British Construction Industry Awards 2019 (Digital Transformation Initiative of a Year), UK National Transport Awards 2016 - Excellence in Technology, IStructE - Institution of Structural Engineers Model and Full Scale Testing Award 2011 and the recipient of the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures IASS Hangai Prize 2011 and IABSE Award 2019. He was involved in a role of a designer, technical lead, project manager and technical expert in the following projects: Cable Supported Bridges: - Great Belt Bridge (2.7 km long suspension bridge, DK) - Humber Bridge (2.2 km long suspension bridge, UK) - New River Wear Crossing (330 m long cable stayed bridge, UK) High Speed Railway Bridge Design (structural dynamics, FE analysis): - High Speed 2 (UK), structural dynamic analysis of 15 high-speed (400 km/h) rail viaducts. - TP40 Copenhagen-Ringsted line (Denmark) - 18 km of structures including 7 high speed railway bridges. Structural Health Monitoring / Asset & Fatigue management: - London M25 Gade Valley Viaduct (440 m long steel box composite bridge, UK). - Storstrøm Bridge (3.2 km long road and railway bridge, DK). - London DLR Bridges (UK).
